Why Choose North Star Pastures Chicken?

What is a pasture-raised chicken? Pretty simple really. It's chicken that was raised on fresh pasture every day. What's the big deal about that? Maybe it would be helpful to understand a little bit about how an industrial chicken comes to your grocery store... Let me help paint the picture.

An industrially raised chicken never sees sunshine or feels fresh air. They're crammed into massive barns with less than 1 square foot per bird - that's floor-to-floor chickens packed together. These birds never eat grass or chase crickets. They're fed corn and soybean meal with additives to maximize growth, routinely vaccinated, and often given medications to prevent disease in these crowded conditions. Most reach market weight in just 6-7 weeks, but at what cost to their welfare and your health?

Compare that with our farm where our chicks spend the first three weeks of their lives on deep bedding, darting out from underneath their heaters to drink fresh water and peck at organic feed sourced locally from Fresh Starts Farm in Mora, MN. After three weeks, our birds are moved out to pasture in our mobile pens that are moved to fresh pasture each and every day. On our lush pasture, they soak up the clean air and sunshine while foraging for grass, crickets, grasshoppers, and worms alongside their organic feed. We have no need for vaccines or medications of any kind.

When it's time to move them to the freezer, they are butchered by hand on our farm. Due to our small batch sizes, they are easily cooled in ice water and packaged without any need for chemical cleansers of any kind - unlike those industrial processing plants running at speeds of up to 175 birds per minute! See the difference?

The benefits go beyond humane treatment. Pasture-raised chicken actually offers more nutrition than conventional chicken. Research shows our chickens contain about three times more omega-3 fatty acids, double the vitamin E, and measurable vitamin D that conventional chicken lacks. This nutritional boost comes directly from their natural diet and sunshine exposure.

When you choose pastured chicken, you're saying no to industrial food. You're saying no to a system that is making our community and environment sick. Choosing pastured chicken is participating in the creation of an alternative. An alternative that's better for you, your family, and your community. Join us and choose North Star Pastures pasture-raised chicken.
